This tour is designed to be a sample of the services that we provide for England's North Country. This one is based on a Manchester Airport arrival and covers Liverpool, The Lake District National Park and the well preserved City of York. Like all our tours it can be adapted for your own needs. Tours based on a specific theme are popular in this area, themes such as Heartbeat, Emmerdale, Stately Homes (Brideshead Revisited was filmed in this area) The Bronte Sisters and even Dracula.

 

 

 

Day 1 – Manchester Arrival

Arrive in Manchester; meet your professional tour manager and private motor coach at the airport before enjoying a panoramic city tour of Manchester and including a guided visit to Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United. Overnight Liverpool

 

Day 2 – Liverpool

This morning take a guided tour of Liverpool with a major focus of the tour being The Beatles, admission included to The Beatles Story, see Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields. Admission to the former homes of John Lennon and Paul McCartney can be made on request. In the afternoon travel north the short distance to The Lake District National Park. Overnight The Lake District

 

Day 3 – Lake District

Enjoy a full day guided tour. Admission included to Hill Top Farm, the home of Beatrix Potter and to Dove Cottage, the home of William Wordsworth. Time to explore the town of Ambleside and take a relaxing cruise on Lake Windermere. Overnight The Lake District

 

Day 4 – The Dales

Travel by motor coach through The Pennines, known as the spine of England. Pause to explore the Wensleydale Creamery, made famous recently by Wallace and Gromit and enjoy a cream tea. Pause in the Skipton area to take a canal cruise on England's longest inland waterway before arriving in York. Overnight York

 

Day 5 – York

After breakfast take an escorted walk through the ancient streets of the city. Walk down "The Shambles" and "Whip-ma-wop-ma-gate". Visits are included to view Viking York at Jorvik and a guided tour of outstanding York Minster. Free time to explore the city further on your own by perhaps walking around the city walls or taking part in a Ghost Walk in what could be the most haunted city in the world? Overnight York

 

Day 6 – North York Moors

A full day guided excursion in Tyhe North York Moors National Park. An included train journey on a heritage railway line  takes us to the North Sea coast for a visit to Whitby, associated with Captain Cook and Count Dracula. Overnight York

 

Day 7 – County Durham

Journeying north, pause to visit the city of Durham, described by many as the most attractive city in England. A visit will be made to the astonishing Durham Cathedral before the remainder of the day is spent enjoying Beamish which shows this region as it was in Victorian, Georgian and Edwardian times. Take a journey on a tram, visit an old school, talk to the friendly and knowledgeable costumed staff and try tasty homemade baked goods. Overnight County Durham

 

Day 8 – Bamburgh and Lindisfarne

After breakfast journey north of the River Tyne and in to The Northumbrian National Park. The coastline here is amongst the most attractive in England and can be seen really well in the village of Bamburgh. The local castle is huge and was for some time the capital of England. Staying on the coast cross the tidal causeway to the holy island of Lindisfarne. Visit the ancient Priory and try some of the local mead. Overnight County Durham

 

Day 9 – Hadrian's Wall

A full day exploring the wonders of Hadrian's Wall. Begin at the site known as Vindolanda, here archaeologists will show you items that have been recently discovered. Highlights would have to be the Roman Writing Tablets that have been voted Britain's Top Treasure. These are like postcards written by Roman Soldiers based on "The Wall" and are the oldest surviving hand written documents in Britain. Following the wall west a visit is made to Birdoswald Roman Fort, the best located of the Roman Forts within a stunning landscape. The included local guide really brings history to life. History going back 2000 years! Travel south for our last night. Overnight Manchester area

 

Day 10 – Departure

An executive motor coach is provided for the transfer to the airport.
