Food and Wine in Southern France

This is a sample of a culinary tour that stays in South West France starting and ending in Toulouse. Corbieres, Albi and Carcassonne will all be explored. SAMPLE DAILY ITINERARY BELOW

SOME OF THE TOUR’S SIGHTS.

Day 1 — Arrival Toulouse


On arrival meet with your professional tour guide for the journey to the Corbieres region and the Chateau de Peyrepeteuse, a large ruined Cathar fortress set on an 800 metre high mountainous crag on the crest of the Corbieres above the village of Duilhac. Overnight stay in Carcassonne.

Day 2 —  Lagrasse and Corbieres


Travel around the Corbieres area today and pay a visit to one of the most beautiful villages of France, Lagrasse. Visit the abbey St Marie d'Orbieu which was founded in 799 before enjoying a sensorial analysis lesson in the different types and flavours of olive oils during a visit to an Olive Oil Mill. Overnight stay in Carcassonne.

Day 3 — Narbonne


Today take an excursion to Narbonne. With a 5-kilometer (3-mile) beach and a marina, Narbonne is located on the coast of one of the most popular tourist regions and prides itself on an urban centre resonating with history, such as cultural sites, museums, and the Canal de la Robine. All this within an extraordinary environmental setting of vineyards, lakes and the La Clape limestone range, at the heart of France's 51st Regional Natural Park. Overnight stay in Carcassonne.

Day 4 — Local Produce


This morning visit a cheese farm in the Languedoc region and find out about the Fromage de Brebis (Ewe's milk cheese), which is popular in this region, and enjoy a tasting. Next visit a farm that produces honey. The Languedoc region produces speciality and rare honeys as well as mass-produced brands. End the day with a visit to a local Chateau and vineyard, and enjoy a wine tasting session. Overnight stay in Carcassonne.

Day 5 — Albi


Enjoy the morning at leisure in Carcassonne discovering its history, its local cuisine and its wines, and make a visit to the Chateau Comtal at the heart of Carcassonne, or simply enjoy the scenery. Late afternoon depart for Albi in the heart of the Toulouse-Montpellier-Barcelone triangle and home of the Cathedrale Ste. Cécile. Overnight stay in Albi.

Day 6 — Toulouse


A visit to Toulouse today to discover the 2000 year-old history which can be seen in the architecture of brick and tiles that is typical of the cities, villages and farms of the Midi-Pyrenees region. Visit the Roman Amphitheatre which can be seen in its entirety, along with the museum. On the way back to Albi visit the hilltop fortified town of Cordes sur Ciel. Overnight stay in Albi.

Day 7 — Albi


Spend the day discovering Albi. This morning visit the Cathedral of Sainte Cécile, a masterpiece of the Southern Gothic style. Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant before visiting the former Bishops' Palace, built in the 13th century and now housing the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum, to see the largest public collection in the world devoted to Toulouse-Lautrec; more than 1000 works. Overnight stay in Albi.

Day 8 — Departure


An executive motor coach is provided for the transfer to Toulouse International Airport.
